Journeyman

This piece is one I often use as a warm-up; for many years it has been the first thing I play when I sit down to the piano.

It is about the beginnings of a journey, or the apprentice on his path towards Mastery, when all the possibilities still exist, and the eventual outcome is in the distant future.

I am fortunate enough to have many artist friends, some of whom are magicians (not that big a stretch, given that I live in Las Vegas). On occasion, I have had a magician perform his tricks while I played this live in the background.  It seemed suitable for stage performance, and I wrote it with a certain amount of magic in mind.
